How does Tri Ethanol Amine work as a cement grinding aid?
In cement manufacturing, TEA is added at very low dosages (0.01–0.05% by weight of cement) to the ball mill. It adsorbs onto the freshly ground cement particle surfaces and prevents them from agglomerating — a phenomenon called "coating" that reduces mill efficiency. By preventing agglomeration, TEA increases mill output, reduces energy consumption, and improves the particle size distribution of the finished cement.
What is the difference between 85% and 99% grade TEA?
The 85% Industrial Grade contains TEA along with small amounts of diethanolamine (DEA) and monoethanolamine (MEA) as co-products. It is suitable for cement grinding, construction chemicals, and metalworking applications where ultra-high purity is not required. The 99% Technical Grade is a higher purity product suitable for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and applications where impurities must be minimised.
Does TEA solidify at low temperatures?
Yes — TEA has a melting point of approximately 21°C and may become viscous or partially solidify in cooler weather. If this occurs, the product can be gently warmed to restore its liquid state without any effect on quality. Storage in a warm, temperature-controlled environment is recommended in cooler climates.
