Magnesium Sulphate

Industrial Grade ยท Agricultural Grade โ€” Bulk supply across India & International Markets

What is Magnesium Sulphate?

Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO4) is an inorganic salt available in anhydrous form and as the heptahydrate (MgSO4.7H2O), commonly known as Epsom Salt. It is a white, odourless crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water. It provides both magnesium and sulphur โ€” two important plant macronutrients โ€” making it widely used in agriculture. The heptahydrate form, Epsom Salt, is the most common commercially available form.

Polychem Industries supplies Magnesium Sulphate in industrial and agricultural grades to fertiliser manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, textile processors, and industrial chemical users across India and internationally. Its dual role as a magnesium and sulphur source, combined with excellent water solubility, makes it one of the most versatile inorganic salts in the market.

Applications & Uses

๐ŸŒพ

Agriculture & Fertilisers

One of the most important agricultural uses of Magnesium Sulphate is as a source of both magnesium and sulphur for crops. Magnesium is a component of chlorophyll and essential for photosynthesis; sulphur is required for protein synthesis. Used as a foliar spray or soil application for magnesium-deficient crops.

๐Ÿงต

Textile Processing

Used as a weighting agent for silk fabrics and in the dyeing and finishing of textiles. Magnesium Sulphate is used to fix certain direct and reactive dyes on cotton fibres and to improve the lustre of silk.

๐Ÿ’Š

Pharmaceutical Applications

Pharma Grade Magnesium Sulphate is used as a laxative (Epsom Salt), in IV formulations for treatment of eclampsia and pre-eclampsia in obstetrics, as an anticonvulsant, and as a magnesium supplement.

๐Ÿ“„

Paper Manufacturing

Used as a paper sizing agent and as a component in paper manufacturing processes to improve paper quality, control pH, and improve the absorption of coatings.

๐Ÿญ

Industrial Processes

Used in the production of magnesium-containing compounds, as a filler in rubber and plastics, as a desiccant in chemical processes, and as a component in certain construction materials.

๐Ÿพ

Animal Feed

Used as a magnesium supplement in animal feed for cattle, sheep, and poultry to prevent grass tetany and correct magnesium deficiency in livestock.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Magnesium Sulphate anhydrous and heptahydrate?
Anhydrous Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO4) contains no water and has a higher concentration of MgSO4 per kg. The heptahydrate form (MgSO4.7H2O), known as Epsom Salt, contains seven water molecules and is the most common commercial form. It is easier to dissolve and handle but has a lower MgSO4 content per kg. For agricultural and pharmaceutical use, the heptahydrate is most commonly specified.
Is Magnesium Sulphate the same as Epsom Salt?
Yes โ€” Epsom Salt is the common name for Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate (MgSO4.7H2O). The name comes from the town of Epsom in England where it was first isolated from mineral springs. The commercial product sold as Epsom Salt for bath, agricultural, and pharmaceutical use is the heptahydrate form of Magnesium Sulphate.
Can Magnesium Sulphate be used as a foliar spray for crops?
Yes โ€” Magnesium Sulphate is one of the most effective foliar sprays for correcting magnesium deficiency in crops. A 1-2% solution of Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate in water is typically applied as a foliar spray. It is rapidly absorbed through the leaves and provides fast correction of visible magnesium deficiency symptoms.
Do you export Magnesium Sulphate outside India?
