What is Magnesium Sulphate?
Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO4) is an inorganic salt available in anhydrous form and as the heptahydrate (MgSO4.7H2O), commonly known as Epsom Salt. It is a white, odourless crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water. It provides both magnesium and sulphur — two important plant macronutrients — making it widely used in agriculture. The heptahydrate form, Epsom Salt, is the most common commercially available form.

Applications & Uses
Agriculture & Fertilisers
One of the most important agricultural uses of Magnesium Sulphate is as a source of both magnesium and sulphur for crops. Magnesium is a component of chlorophyll and essential for photosynthesis; sulphur is required for protein synthesis. Used as a foliar spray or soil application for magnesium-deficient crops.
Textile Processing
Used as a weighting agent for silk fabrics and in the dyeing and finishing of textiles. Magnesium Sulphate is used to fix certain direct and reactive dyes on cotton fibres and to improve the lustre of silk.
Pharmaceutical Applications
Pharma Grade Magnesium Sulphate is used as a laxative (Epsom Salt), in IV formulations for treatment of eclampsia and pre-eclampsia in obstetrics, as an anticonvulsant, and as a magnesium supplement.
Paper Manufacturing
Used as a paper sizing agent and as a component in paper manufacturing processes to improve paper quality, control pH, and improve the absorption of coatings.
Industrial Processes
Used in the production of magnesium-containing compounds, as a filler in rubber and plastics, as a desiccant in chemical processes, and as a component in certain construction materials.
Animal Feed
Used as a magnesium supplement in animal feed for cattle, sheep, and poultry to prevent grass tetany and correct magnesium deficiency in livestock.
